SUMMARY:Workshop: Renae Barlow - Second Curve Leadership; Women Navigating Professional Transition
DESCRIPTION:Every woman reaches a point where the identity that built her career no longer matches where she is heading next. This is the second curve: the shift that occurs when experience and capability have outgrown the role\, title\, or definition a woman has been operating from\, whether by choice or by circumstance.\nThis two-hour workshop gives women a framework for recognizing where they are in that shift\, understanding why the middle of it often feels chaotic and undefined\, and making clear decisions about what to keep\, what to release\, and when. The harder question is not whether to change\, but how to know when the moment has arrived: when you have learned what a role had to teach you\, and what signals that it is time to move on.\nParticipants will leave with a practical tool for that decision\, along with language for a stage of transition that is rarely named and often navigated alone. This is not a session about starting over. It is about recognizing what remains once the titles are set aside and building the next chapter with clarity. \nRenae Barlow is the founder of Summit Stream\, a principal-led advisory practice for senior leaders and organizations navigating complex transitions in leadership\, innovation\, and emerging technology adoption.\nHer recognition includes Woman of Distinction and a nomination to Canada’s Most Powerful Women Top 100. Her work on second-curve leadership draws on the combination of lived transition and applied practice: the point at which experience and capability outgrow the identity a career was built around\, and the discipline required to recognize when it is time to move.

SUMMARY:Power Stage: Claire Masikewich - Shift Happens\, How to Thrive Through Hard Times
DESCRIPTION:The concept is simple: control what you can\, and let go of what you can’t. But when\nlife throws challenges your way\, why does it feel so impossible to live by those words?\nIt’s because you need to build these habits now\, before things get hard.\nMost resilience strategies focus on “bouncing back” or getting through to the other side.\nClaire’s approach is different. It’s about learning how to move through challenges while\nyou’re still in them—with clarity\, intention\, and control.\nIn this powerful and uplifting keynote\, Claire shares her deeply personal journey\nthrough her daughter’s stage 4 cancer diagnosis\, alongside her lifelong experience with\nanxiety. Through this lived and deeply relatable perspective\, she offers practical\nstrategies for navigating not only life’s biggest challenges\, but also the everyday\npressures we all face. \nClaire highlights three key areas within your control—your thoughts\, your community\,\nand your actions—and shows how focusing your energy on the right things allows you\nto not only survive adversity\, but find strength and meaning within it.

SUMMARY:It Can Happen to Anyone - Domestic Violence and Coercive Control: Recognizing the Early Warning Signs
DESCRIPTION:It Can Happen to Anyone \nDomestic Violence and Coercive Control: Recognizing the Early Warning Signs \nWhat if those first red flags are easy to miss? \nDomestic Violence rarely starts with physical acts. Often\, it begins with behaviours that can feel like love\, concern\, or protection. What feels romantic at first can gradually become something quite different. \nBehaviour patterns used to gain power in the relationship\, like monitoring where you are\, managing finances “for your benefit”\, or becoming upset when you spend time with friends or family—these are called Coercive Control. And it can be as destructive as physical violence. \nNovember is Alberta Family Violence Prevention Month. Across the province\, communities are coming together to increase awareness\, encourage conversations\, and help prevent abuse before it escalates. \nPlease join us for an evening exploring:\n• Why abuse can happen in any relationship and why it is often unrecognized\n• The early warning signs of coercive control and abuse\n• How to support someone you are worried about and start a safe conversation\n• Local resources and where to turn for help \nNo prior knowledge is needed\, just an open mind and a willingness to learn. You will leave with the knowledge and confidence to recognize warning signs earlier\, support someone you care about\, or better understand experiences that often remain hidden. \nBecause domestic violence and coercive control can happen to anyone. \nPanelists:\nDenise Summers Survivor advocate with lived experience.\nKaren Gosbee Community advocate with lived experience related to mental health\, addiction\, and Domestic Violence.\nLeslie Hill Executive Director\, Discovery House \nModerator\nAlison Pidskalny\nStrategic advisor\, board director\, philanthropist\, and community leader.
